Scott Agnew: Scottish Comedian of the Year 2008
Underbelly
Imagine the gay son of Amy Winehouse and Billy Connelly performing a drug fuelled episode of Still Game. Scott Agnew is the antidote to Craig Hill’s light campery. This is working class Scottish gay life.
Agnew takes us through his upbringing – growing up gay in Glasgow to a Catholic family. He pulls no punches. East End women, gangsters, tramps, chavs, rent boys and grandparents feature. His storytelling is crisp, efficient and funny. His characterisations are lively and real.
He’s also capable of some lovely one-liners and he’s more than comfortable departing from the script to banter with the audience.
Agnew is an immensely talented performer, who at just 27 isn’t just showing promise, but has already arrived. Catch him hosting the New Town Bar festival shows every Sunday at the fringe if you want a sneak a peak for free.
