The Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre Goes to Hollywood
Gilded Balloon
There is something about the idea of a one man sock puppet show which seems appealing, in its own fringe kind of way. It’s the sort of thing that should be so bad, it’s funny – so aware of how bad it is, that it becomes an ironic masterpiece. However, this not the case.
The show truly is as bad as it sounds. It is one man with a sock on each hand, speaking in squeaky voices about well known films. The novelty irony of how bad the show is wears thin after five minutes, and you are just left watching a terrible show for the next fifty-five.
At every opportunity a cringe-worthy pun is dropped, and rather than leaving the awkward, yet knowing pun alone, he pursues it, robbing it of all dignity and humour. If this were anything other than socks, people would have walked out on the grounds that this is not 1920s vaudeville. Instead, these people laughed throughout, and one even gave a standing ovation. People like this should be removed from the gene pool.
One best avoided.
