Tommy and the Weeks – Wonderbang
Pleasance Courtyard

As a critic and fan of live comedy, I have noticed over the years that it requires one major thing, if nothing else, – jokes.  This is where double-act Tommy and the Weeks break the mould; they have crafted an hour long show which is sporadically funny, but does not contain any memorable jokes.  And I use the word “memorable” in the sense that I can’t remember there being any.

In place of conventional jokes, it’s largely just them being whimsical and enjoying themselves, with the rapport between them being the source of most humour.  There are some sketches, but again, it is really just the two of them saying things in a funny way, rather than saying funny things.  Some of the sketches have good premises, but little is done with them, whereas other sketches have weak premises, but go on to draw a fair few laughs.

It makes for reasonable enough viewing – it’s not particularly boring, neither is it particularly entertaining.  It won’t challenge you, it won’t offend you, but chances are it won’t make you laugh either; it really is a completely average show which allows an hour to pass without checking the watch, but inspires nothing positive either.
