William Andrews – Nitwit
Pleasance Dome
William Andrews is an oddball. Audiences should know this before seeing him. Audiences should know that if they don’t like oddball acts, they shouldn’t go and see them. I have this gripe because after watching William Andrews, and spending the whole hour near hysterics, I realised that I was one of only a few going for it.
It’s the Murphy’s Law of comedy; the night it goes a bit flat is the night the critics are in, but despite some of the audience’s reservations, this is a superb show. The probably insane mind of Andrews is fully enabled in a show which has no real theme other than silliness – but this does not mean it’s stupid or unchallenging. In fact, there are plenty of intelligent gags, and they are relentless. Andrews’ timing is also superb, not rushing the punchline one iota, which compliments his material perfectly.
Speaking to friends who saw his show on various other nights, they said he stormed it and everyone was belly-laughing throughout. So if you heard from anyone in the audience on my night that he’s not worth seeing, you should tell them to shut up and find an opinion worth caring about – William Andrews is hilarious and not to be missed.
