The Sugar Dandies: Ladies Not Required
C Chambers Street

Created and performed by champion same-sex ballroom dancers Sören and Bradley, this lively duo present us with the story of their unconventional dance careers.  Their show is an honest and genuinely insightful look at being a gay couple, dancing as a pair, as they challenge the heterosexist ballroom dance world.

The story of fear, fight and eventual acceptance will be recognised by anyone growing up gay, or different in any way. The dancing is great, and spans a number of genres.  The poodle foxtrot was a real highlight.

As a whole, the show was let down a little by some terrible puns from the compere, Philip Rescorla, who seemed to be doing his best to put the audience to sleep whilst the boys were changing costumes.  It is too generous to state that his material was underwritten – it caused much bum shuffling in seats whilst we yearned for the dancers to come back on.

Ultimately though, Sören and Bradley more than make up for this in an entertaining and enlightening fifty minutes of ballroom fun.
